1858-1912
From 1858 until 1862, the building served as Openbare Lagere School Molenstraat, a school for boys. In 1872, it became a special primary and secondary school that offered three-year courses from the Middle Trade Union.
Pomona
1912-1949
The building became Hotel Pomona, completely owned and operated by women. An apprentice of Hendrik Petrus Berlage, the preeminent Dutch architect, designed the staircase. In 1913, the hotel caused a stir by opening the Hague’s first-ever vegetarian restaurant. It attracted the greatest minds of the day, from philosophers Bertrand Russell and Austrian philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein to abstract artist Hima af Klint.
Park & Zalm 1949–2020
Hotel Pomona became Park Hotel, and then in the late ’60s, Park Hotel and the next-door Hotel de Zalm combined to become Park Hotel de Zalm. In 1972, Dutch entrepreneur Levi Lassen took over the hotel and it became Park Hotel The Hague. In 2010, it was renovated to have 120 guest rooms to accommodate the city’s booming tourism. The hotel celebrated its 100-year anniversary on 12 May 2012, a huge milestone for the property. In 2018, Park Hotel The Hague was acquired by Sircle Collection.
Park Centraal
2020-now
In 2020, Sircle Collection beautifully refurbished the historic property while preserving its 160-year-old history. Guest rooms and meeting spaces took on new life with fresh colours and textures. They also introduced The Bar, a social hub for food and drinks on the ground floor.
